Before you book
We start with a call of up to ten minutes, free, to check that this is the right kind of help and that the timing works. The initial consultation follows from there.
Not currently available
Stopping smoking or vaping, and therapy for depression. I can point you to another practitioner for either.
Who I see
Adults over 18. I don’t take therapists, counsellors, psychologists or trainees as therapy clients — supervision is the only service for practitioners.
03 — How I work
A structured hour, built around you.
The talking part and the hypnotherapy part do different jobs. The conversation sets the direction; the trance work settles it — and both are adapted to the person in the room.
-
01
Solution focused brief therapy
The session stays on what you want to be different, and the next small step towards it.
-
02
CBT techniques
Looking at the link between thoughts, feelings and what you do — and testing it rather than assuming it.
-
03
NLP
How experience is represented, and how the language you use holds a pattern in place.
-
04
Mindfulness-based techniques
Attention and pace, practised in the room so they are usable outside it.
-
05
Ericksonian hypnosis
Indirect, permissive suggestion rather than a fixed script read at you.
-
06
Guided imagery
The quiet part of the session, which is why the clinic asks for a calm waiting area.
The first appointment is an assessment, not treatment. We go through what brought you, what you want to be different, and how many sessions are likely to be useful — usually six weekly sessions, reviewed at the sixth.
Between sessions you have a relaxation recording to listen to. Hypnotherapy is a supplement to medical care, not a substitute for it, and results vary from person to person.
04 — Fees
Fees, plainly.
The same figures whether the session is in Clifton or on Zoom.
| Appointment | Length | Fee |
|---|---|---|
| Initial consultation | 60 minutes | £95 |
| Subsequent session | 50 minutes | £95 |
| Subsequent session | 60 minutes | £115 |
| Ad-hoc one-off session | 1 hour | £160 |
| Six-session block | Per session | £95 |
Fees are prepaid one week in advance by bank transfer, and a security deposit applies. Your slot is reserved for you whether or not you attend, so the fee is due for time booked.
Most people attend between eight and twelve sessions, though that is agreed between us rather than sold in advance. The ten-minute enquiry call is free.

Supervision, one to one.
For the practitioners who supervise other people, and need somewhere to take their own work.
I have supervised other therapists for over sixteen years — practitioners, supervisors and senior supervisors — after being supervised myself by David Newton at the Clifton Practice from 2005.
Supervision is 1:1 only. Group supervision was withdrawn in 2015 and will not be reinstated. It is for experienced practitioners: senior therapists, clinical supervisors and senior clinicians.
It is a professional service, not therapy. I don’t take therapists, counsellors, psychologists or trainees as therapy clients; acceptance for supervision follows a conversation about fit.
